Sergei Markedonov

Dr. Sergei Markedonov was born in 1972 in Russia. He holds a degree from the Faculty of History of the Rostov-on-Don State University and an MA degree from the Rostov-on-Don State Pedagogical University. He is also Candidate of Sciences (Ph.D.) in History.

From 1996 to 1999 he was a Lecturer at the Faculty of History of the Rostov-on-Don State Pedagogical University. From 1998 to 2001 he occupied position of a Senior Fellow at the Press-Service of the Governor, Rostov Regional Administration.

Currently he is Head of the Department of Interethnic Relations at the Institute for Political and Military Affairs, Moscow, Russia, where he conducts research on Caucasus and Black Sea Region security issues.
He has published books and research articles on this subject and received a number of awards, including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Research Award, a Special Prize from the Analytical Journalism Competition, and a NATO Collaborative Linkage Grant.
